DMEA Ballots Now Available; Members to Vote on Board Term Limits Amendment

Ballots are now available for Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA) members to participate in the cooperative’s 2026 election and vote on a proposed amendment to board term limits.
While this year’s board candidates are running unopposed and will be confirmed by voice vote at DMEA’s Annual Meeting, members are still encouraged to participate in the election process by voting on the proposed amendment to the Articles of Incorporation related to director term limits.
The official ballot will include a vote on a proposed amendment to the Articles of Incorporation that would change the term limits for directors. At its March meeting, the board voted to refer this potential change to the membership for consideration.
The proposed change would allow directors to serve four 4-year terms (16 years total) if members continue to elect them. The proposal also includes a four-year break before directors can run again. Serving on the board of an electric cooperative and making complex decisions requires significant experience and training. It takes directors five to six years to complete certifications for both electric and broadband leadership courses, gain industry knowledge, and fully develop expertise in cooperative governance. Extending potential service time helps preserve experienced leadership and continuity on the board while long-term projects are planned and executed.
Voting is now live, and members may vote online, by mail, or in person (only available at the annual meeting). Each member is allowed only one vote, regardless of the voting method used.
For online voting, a “Vote Now” button is available in each eligible member’s secure SmartHub account. Members with an email address on file also received a secure email link with instructions and login credentials to cast their ballot electronically.
Mail-in ballots were sent to all members at the address on file. Completed ballots may be returned by mail or dropped off at any DMEA office using the secure ballot drop box located in the lobby. The deadline to return ballots is June 16, at 5:00 pm MST.
Members may also vote in person during DMEA’s Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 18, at Olathe High School. In-person voting will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed by a brief business meeting at 5:30 p.m.
During the meeting, DMEA will announce election results, provide a review of the cooperative’s past year, and host a member Q&A session. Following the business meeting, members and their families are invited to enjoy free entertainment, including live music, a mystery-themed event, prizes, and kids’ activities.
